Monday, February 20, 2012 at 10:34AM Ak-Sar-Ben Community College Scholarship- 10 @ $1,000, must submit a FAFSA form to the community college you plan to attend (Southeast Community College in Milford is a community college) 2 essay questions on yourself and your goals, 2 letters of reference, must be a good student, must maintain a 2.5 GPA in college, your complete application packet must be mailed to the Office of Financial Aid of the community college that you plan to attend. Deadline: March
The ~ scholarships below are all sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary. You must be Veteran communicated to apply for them. That means your father, mother, or grandmother, grandfather, must have served in the Armed Forces. Applications can be found in the guidance office.
~American Legion Auxiliary Averyl Elaine Keridades Memorial Scholarship- 1 @ a variable amount, must be a female, must attend UNL and plan to teach middle school social studies. Deadline: March
~American Legion Auxiliary Licensed Practical Nursing Scholarship- 1 @ varying amount, must be veteran connected (have a parent or grandparent who was a veteran), must study to be a LPN. Deadline: March
~American Legion Auxiliary National President's Scholarship - 1 @ $2,500, 1 @ $2,000, must be daughter or son of veterans who served in the Armed Forces, must have contributed 50 hours of volunteer service to school or community. Deadline: March
~American Legion Auxiliary Nurse's Gift Tuition Scholarship- 1 @ a variable amount, must study nursing. Deadline: March
~American Legion Auxiliary Roberta Marie Stretch Memorial Scholarship- 1 @ $300, must attend a four year college, preference given to former Girl's Staters. Deadline: March
~American Legion Auxiliary Ruby Paul Campaign Fund Scholarship- 1 @ a variable amount, must be the daughter, son, granddaughter, grandson, great-granddaughter or great-grandson of an American Legion or American Legion Auxiliary member who has held a Nebraska membership for two years, must have a 3.0 GPA, must have been a Nebraska resident for at least three years. Deadline: March
~American Legion Auxiliary Vocational/Technical Scholarship- 1 @ $300, must be veteran connected (have a parent or grandparent who was a veteran), must major in vocational or technical program at a one or two year college. Deadline: March
Acacia Leadership Scholarship- 10 @ $1,000 x 4 years; must attend UNL or Iowa State University, must be a male student, GPA 3.5, outstanding in academics, extra curricular activities, community involvement, essay, 2 letters of recommendation. Deadline: March
Americorp Education Award- $4,725 college scholarship for 1,700 hours of work for the Americorps National Service in a period of nine months, while working in these U.S. Government sponsored program you will receive in addition to the scholarship award a living allowance, room and board, health care, and will learn skills from construction to tutoring to environmental conservation, first aid among others. This is an excellent way to learn and earn even through you would need to defer college for one year. It is something like the Peace Corps except that all the work is done in the USA. A good way to gain experience and earn college money. Deadline: March

Independent Insurance Agents of Nebraska Foundation Chet Lindner Memorial Scholarship - several @ $750, scholarship is awarded after winner completes one full year of college, ACT scores, GPA of 3.0, preference given to business related majors, brief essays on educational goals and plans, school and community activities, leadership, letter of recommendation from guidance counselor or principal, one of the scholarships must be awarded to a senior attending a Nebraska college. Deadline: March 1
Creighton University Writing Department Scholarship- 2 @ $4,000, must major in English, must submit a portfolio of writing examples, poems, 2 short stories, a novel excerpt, one letter of recommendation. Deadline: March
Agriliance, Land O' Lakes, and Croplan Genetics/Careers in Agriculture Scholarship Program –20 @ $1,000, must pursue a 2 or 4 year degree in agriculture related studies. Deadline: March
Farm Credit Services of America Scholarship- 12 @ $2,000, only open to college juniors and seniors, must study at UNL in an ag related field, 1 to 2 page essay on your college and career plans, GPA of 3.0. More information is available at the Farm Credit Website. Deadline: March
Gus Swanson Memorial Communications Scholarship- 1 @ $500, must attend a Nebraska college, GPA 3.25, transcript, essay, must major in one of the following: Advertising, Marketing, Communication Studies, Mass Communications (print or broadcast), Public Relations, Journalism or Graphic Design/Desktop Publishing. Husker Harvest Days Scholarships- 9 @ $600, must study in ag-related program, can be at a 2 or 4 year college in Nebraska, must have a 3.0 GPA, essay questions, resume of activities and work experience. Deadline: March
Kohl’s Kids Who Care – 10 national winners @ $5,000, 170 regional winners @ $1,000; 2 winners from each store @ $50 Kohl gift card; must be nominated by an adult for volunteering in your community and making a difference in the lives of friends, neighbors and even strangers. Lincoln Community Foundation Scholarships- several different ones, check online to see if you qualify. Deadline: March
Maynard Jensen Memorial Scholarship- 1 @ $500, must be son/daughter, grandchildren members of the Nebraska American Legion, or a deceased veteran, brief essay on your chosen career, financial need, academic achievement, extra curricular activities, GPA 3.0. Deadline: March
Nebraska Academy of Sciences Loren Eiseley Memorial Scholarship- 1 @ $500, 800 word essay on Eiseley's message of compassion for all organisms and humanity's place in the universe, 2 letters of recommendation, scholastic achievements, list two essays of Eiseley's you have read (see your librarian if you need to read them yet), copy of college acceptance letter. Deadline: March
Nebraska Actuaries Club Scholarship- 2 @ $4,000 and 1 @ $1,000; the $4,000 scholarships will only be awarded to students entering the University of Nebraska (any campus); the $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student entering any college in Nebraska. Must be planning on majoring in a math or actuarial science related field. First semester college GPA of 3.0, high school transcript, ACT score, essay, activities, achievements, 1 letter of recommendation. Deadline: March
Nebraska Bankers Educational Foundation (NBEF) – 8 @ $1,000, must be a Junior or Senior in college, must be a legal resident of Nebraska, must be pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in finance, accounting, economics or other business related major at a Nebraska college. Deadline: March
Nebraska Cattlemen (NC) Foundation Scholarship – must have a “C” or higher GPA; preferences to student majoring in an agricultural field of study; essay, 3 letters of reference. Deadline: March
Nebraska Coaches Association/Farm Bureau Scholar/Athlete Scholarship - several @ $500, ACT of 24, top 25% of class, lettered in 2 varsity sports, participated for 2 years in 2 sports, letter of recommendation from high school coach. Deadline: March.
Nebraska Legal Professionals Association Scholarship- 1 @ $1,000, 1 @ $500, GPA 2.5, must study paralegal, legal secretary, business, criminal justice, psychology or a law-related program, goal statement, high school transcript. Deadline: March
Nebraska Motor Carriers Association Scholarship- 1 @ $500, must study diesel technology, 3 letters of reference, copy of parent's 2012 1040 tax form must accompany the application. Deadline: March

Nebraska School Counselor Association – 1 @ $500, any graduating student pursuing a postsecondary education is eligible.Write a brief essay about their experience with a school counselor or counseling program. See the link for more details. Deadline: March
Nebraska State Bar Foundation Essay Contest – 6 winners will participate in television broadcast and time with the Nebraska Chief Justice and members of the Nebraska Supreme court in an informal question and answer period. One of the 6 winners will receive a scholarship valued at $2,300 to the National Student Leadership Conference. Deadline: March.
Nebraska State Volunteer Fire Association Auxiliary Scholarship- 2 @ $250, 2 letters of recommendation, transcript, letter of acceptance from college, 100 word essay "What are your college goals?" Deadline: Received by March
NAIFA (Nebraska Association of Insurance & Financial Advisors) Scholarship- 1 @ $500, 3 @ $250, preference given to candidates interested in courses of study such as education, business/management/finance, marketing/sales, or actuarial studies; preference given to those who attend a Nebraska university, college, or community college; GPA of 3.0, demonstrate good character and leadership. Northeast Nebraska Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors Scholarship- 1 @ $250, GPA of 3.0, must study in education, business, management, finance, marketing, sales, or actuarial science, must attend a college in Nebraska, demonstrate good character, leadership. Omaha Archdiocesan Council Scholarship- 1 @ $500, must be a female and Catholic, recommendation from parish priest, essay on future goals, education, and goals as a Catholic woman, 3.0 GPA. Deadline: March
Oxbow Academy Scholarship Program – 2 @ $500; must major in animal science, pre-vet, food science or another facet of the small companion animal industry, 2 letters of reference, may attend any college in Nebraska. Deadline: March
RMEL Foundation Scholarship – several @ varying amounts up to $2,500; must pursue a 2 or 4 year program in the electrical industry—engineering, utility line, electrician, business, information systems; official transcript; essay; goals, motivation, community service, academic ability. Deadline: March
Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship- 40 @ $1,500 x 4 years if good college grades are maintained, GPA 3.5, ACT of 30, apply online. Deadline: March
SAMMY got milk? Scholarship- 25 @ $7,500, GPA 3.5, must be an outstanding scholar/athlete, leadership, community service and "milk experience" are also considered, must have a nominator from your school. Deadline: March

Scott Mecham BBB Student of Integrity Awards – 3 @ $2,000; awards, extracurricular activities, 2 letters of recommendation, description of college plans, high school transcript; essay on ethics. Deadline: March
Southeast Community College President's Scholarships- several at $500 per quarter until degree is completed at SECC, GPA of 3.0, positive citizenship and leadership skills. Deadline: March
Susan Thompson Buffet Foundation Scholarship – several for up to $3,200 per semester for tuition and fees plus $400 for books; renewable for up to 5 years depending on program of study; must attend a state or public college or university or community college in Nebraska; GPA 2.5; financial need is a strong consideration, copies of last year’s tax forms, and SAR from the FAFSA, transcript, completed and typed scholarship application. UNK Balanced Man Scholarship - 1 @ $500, must be male, must attend UNK, GPA of 3.0, extracurricular activities, community service, employment. Deadline: May
UNK Industrial Technology Scholarship- 6 @ varying amounts; must major in construction management, Industrial Distribution, Telecommunications Management, or Aviation systems, activities, goal essay, honors and awards. Deadline: March
UNK Special Activity Grant for Art Majors- several @ $1,000 tuition waiver ($500 a semester), must submit 7 original works of art and if desired, 9 additional slides of original work, specific requirements of size are listed on the applications. Deadline: March
UNK Opportunity Fund – Must be nominated by your high school guidance counselor; must be from a Class C or D Nebraska High School; must be admitted to UNK. Deadline: March 28.
UNL Eastman Scholarships in Mathematics- 5 @ $4,000 (4 years), must be enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences with a major in math or statistics, ACT 25 or higher, must have a 3.5 GPA; 2 letters of recommendation. Deadline: March
UNL College of Business and Technology Freshman Scholarships- several @ $200, must have a GPA of 3.0, major in business administration, airway science or aircraft systems management, human development or consumer science major. Deadline: March
UNL Department of Theater Arts Scholarships - Several from $500-$2,000, must audition on or before March 13 at the Temple Building or another approved date prior to that.
UNL Early Childhood Education Scholarships - 8 @ $1,000, must major in early childhood education (birth to grade 3), 2 letters of recommendation, extracurricular activities, awards and honors, GPA of 3.0. Deadline: March
UNL Honors Program- several @ a book stipend for 4 years, 3.5 GPA, ACT 25 or higher. Deadline: March
UNL Mortar Board Scholarship- 1 @ $250, 3.5 GPA, attend UNL, based on scholarship, leadership, service, must contribute time and service to college when they attend there. Deadline: March
UNL Pi Sigma Alpha National Political Honor Society Essay Scholarship- 1 @ $ 500, 1 @ $300, 1 @ $200, must attend UNL, must enroll in a political class in the fall (history, government- almost all college students have to take at least 1 class like this), 1 to 3 page essay on "Voter turnout in the USA tends to be lower than on other democratic countries. Is this a problem? Explain your answer. Would the Framers of the Constitution agree with you? Why or Why not?" Essays must be double spaced and typed, quality of your answer is more important than quantity. Deadline: March
UNL Visual Arts Scholarships - 3 @ $1,000, must major in art or art history, letters of recommendation from the art teacher or high school counselor, high school transcript. Deadline: March
UNO Chancellor's Scholarship- several @ $2,500 for 4 years, ACT 26-28, GPA 3.0 or higher. Deadline: March
UNO College of Fine Arts Music Scholarship- several @ varying amounts, some for music majors, others for students wanting to participate in band, chorus, or orchestra, 2 letters of recommendation, one from a band or choir instructor. Deadline: March
US Bank Online Scholarship- 30 @ 1,000, 2 or 4 year college, selected by a random drawing for those who visit and apply on-line. Deadline: Applications accepted online from October -March.
