Calendars Set to Print

The 2010-2011 Parish and School Activities Calendar will be available soon.  They're finished, but still need to be printed.  To get your sneak peak, we have made a pdf version available here. Remember, the calendar is like the weather; if you wait long enough, it's bound to change.  Always refer to the school announcements or articles on Sycamore for the latest and most accurate information.

Navigating Through the Sea of Data

The great thing about the web is that if you need any information about pretty much any topic, it’s probably out there.  The hard part is figuring out how to find it.  The reason why Google has been so successful is because they do a better job than most of indexing the most relevant data for your search.

The above introduction is long and strangely convoluted way to just say “we’re changing a few of our navigation buttons on the website and we want make sure you know where to find it in the future.”  The “Lunch” button will no longer be in the top menu.  If you really want to know what’s for lunch you can find it in Orbund.  This does a few things.  It frees up valuable real estate in the top navigation and also hopefully encourages you to visit Orbund more often to see how your child’s grades are doing.  The other thing that Orbund has that this website does not have is the most up to date calendar for the high school.

While we say goodbye to the “Lunch” button, we’re excited to welcome the new “Sports” menu.  Here you will find all of the relevant schedules and records from St. Mary’s athletics.

How do I sync St. Mary's Calendar to my smart phone?

Once again it's Google to the rescue!  While Google attempts to take over the world, we can in the meantime enjoy the free and efficient applications to make our lives easier.

The main Google application you will need to download onto your phone is Google Sync.  I started using Google Sync after I finally grew tired of constantly plugging my Blackberry into my computer in order to sync it with my Outlook Calendar.  If I didn't dock it often enough, my phone calendar would be way off from my Outlook calendar.  Since Google does everything up in the internet cloud, there are no more cords needed.  Google Sync takes care of synching my Google Calendar with my phone calendar with me even noticing.

Follow the this link and you are on your way: http://www.google.com/mobile/products/sync.html#p=default

How do I add St. Mary's calendar to my Google calendar?

Obviously, the first thing you'll need is a Google Calendar of your own.  Why would you need this?  As with many families today, being busy is pretty normal and keeping track of everything is a job in itself.  You might want to have a Google Calendar to keep track of your family's comings and goings and because Google Calendar is stored on the internet, you or your children could access it when you are away from home.  If you use a smart phone you could even add appointments and keep track of events on the go.

To sign up for Google Calendar you just need to go to www.google.com/calendar/ and follow the instructions from there.

Once you've begun using your own Google Calendar, you'll notice on the left side of your calendar a box for "Other Calendar".  At the bottom of the box click "add".  Once you've done that it will offer four options.  Choose "Add a Friend's Calendar".  It will then ask for an email address.  Type: stmarysoneill@gmail.com.  Please note that this is not our regular email address; we only use it for the Google Calendar.
